Gebrselassie drops out of NYC Marathon

NYC - Ethiopian legend Haile Gebrselassie left mid-way through the New York Marathon, the former Olympic and world champion, apparently unable to run with a right knee.

Gebrselassie, the 1996 and 2000 Olympic 10,000 m champion, was in the lead group, but as the race progressed seemed to favor his knee and stopped working at 16 miles - before the ground has been brokers in Manhattan.

Gebrselassie, world record holder, admitted via Twitter before the start of the race and in a television interview before the race he had an inflamed knee.



"I have a swollen right knee, because of the long journey to New York," he wrote in the micro-blogging site. "No big deal, just some fluids. Hopefully, the knee has!
