Phillies Hold Off Giants NLCS Games Series 6

SAN FRANCISCO - Doc has the best of The Freak this time in a rematch of aces.

Roy Halladay recorded by a menu in the groin, outdueling Tim Lincecum and maintenance of the Philadelphia Phillies alive in the championship series of the National League with a 4-2 victory against the Giants in San Francisco on Thursday night.

Jayson Werth's solo homer in the ninth quieted the boisterous crowd of 43,713 sold, and many fans began to exit before its entry to Philadelphia 3-2 in the best of seven series.

Halladay coal - which seems to be bad - helped spark a round of three-point third when Shane Victorino led to the first of two runs scored on an error of commissioning by first baseman Aubrey Huff.

Placido Polanco followed with an RBI single and two-time reigning NL forced a home game back 6 at Citizens Bank Park on Saturday and another trip across the country. Jonathan Sanchez will start for the Giants against Roy Oswalt, who is 10-0 in 12 starts for Philadelphia this year.

Philadelphia started the celebration in San Francisco waiting. The Giants now have to win once in two trials in Philadelphia for flag fourth of the franchise since moving West in 1958. San Francisco has not been to a World Series team since Barry Bonds led the Giants lost Game 7 against the Angels in 2002.

After Ryan Madson struck the 4-5-6 hitters for the Giants in the eighth, Brad Lidge finished things with the Phillies 1-2-3 ninth for his second save of the series.

Philadelphia will try to become the team of 12 to overcome a 3-1 deficit in a series of seven Red Sox were the last to do so in 2007 ALCS against Cleveland.

The Giants put the tying run in scoring position in the coming fourth, fifth and sixth, but could not capitalize, missing a key factor for potential home playoff for the first time since Game 7 of the 1962 World Series against New York Yankees.

In a series dominated by pitching, the Phillies just hit the Giants in 0209 and 0220. Little separated the teams, despite the end of the series, surpassed Philadelphia San Francisco 18-16.

Halladay was just stuff not affected, but it had the advantage. In a duel of Cy Young winners Lincecum won the first game, Halladay looked after Pat Burrell strike called third to end the first, and Burrell in the jaw, while Halladay watering injuries. Clearly, smoking in the dugout later, Halladay returned to the mound seemingly unfazed at that time or a net that has swept parts of entries later. Halladay kept trying, but not the brightest.

Lincecum, two-time reigning Cy Young winner Halladay beat five days earlier. Was 2-0 so far this series and pitched another solid game, except for one entry into the rough, but the offense did not turn.

Halladay worked at times and threw 108 pitches in six innings of control and dominance displayed in launching the second non-hitter in Series history to begin October 6 for the Phillies swept the division series against the Reds Cincinnati.

Halladay injured his groin in the second round, according to Phillies manager Charlie Manuel. However, Halladay allowed two runs and six hits, struck out five and walked two - including a pass to leadoff hitter Andres Torres in the first inning was an RBI from Buster Posey. The defense behind him, even got a few grains on Thursday, but he came.

After moving to San Francisco management of Captain Bruce Bochy paid in the previous two games, Manuel has made some adjustments that were on the mark.

Manuel flips up of your order, Polanco is back in the No. 2 hole - in which he hit in Game 1 against Lincecum - after Chase Utley was there in the last three games. Utley hit third, to give the Phillies three left-handers in his first four batters in the leadoff spot switch hit Victorino.

Raul Ibanez also was back in left field for the Phillies after being against a lefty starter Wednesday. He snapped an 0-for-15 funk with a single to start a run of three points in the third Philadelphia.

After the success of Ibáñez, Carlos Ruiz hit Lincecum - the fourth time bound Ruiz was hit in this postseason. Halladay has established a bunt that the receiver Buster Posey picked up near the plate. Posey throws to third, but Pablo Sandoval was unable to return to the bag of force. Halladay did not run, thinking it was a foul ball and was easily removed at first.

After Utley's third to one entry, Lincecum retired the next 11 batters in order before the Phillies' Jimmy Rollins just the beginning of the seventh. Rollins stole second and third, becoming the first to steal two bags in an inning of NLCS game since Roger Cedeño in New York in Game 4 of the ALCS 1999. Now, he proceeded to a total of seven times in the history of the championship series.
